Up for grabs is this like new Cort Jeff Berlin Rithimic 5 Bass (2019). It is in excellent condition and is extremely fun to play.
This all passive bass features an extremely lightweight Alder body with a Walnut Burl Top. It offers a really narrow, comfortable bolt on Hard Rock Maple neck that is complemented with a Rosewood fingerboard, a 12” radius and medium sized frets.
Outfitting the body is a Babicz High Mass Full Contact Bridge, a volume control, a balance control, one tone control, passive electronics, and a 4-in-Line Headstock featuring gold Hipshot Ultralite tuners – which do a great job of preventing neck dive.
The Bartolini Jeff Berlin custom soapbar pickups are nicely hot – especially for a passive bass. The neck pickup provides a round and mellow Gibson EB-ish oomph, while the bridge pickup offers more mid-presence bite and trebly sheen. While each sounds great on its own, the real magic happens between the pickups. Every millimeter of space between the pickups with the balance control gives you different sounds.
At first glance you’d expect that this would essentially be a fingerstyle bass, very much in accordance with Jeff Berlin’s playing style and specifications. However, the action on the bass is low and it is set up with DR Strings Custom DDT (Drop Down Tuning) for easy playing. The tone is also surprisingly varied for a passive instrument with only basic controls (blend and tone, plus volume).
The end result is an incredibly versatile bass that is at ease when playing solo, chords, fingerstyle – even slap. It is a great “All-Rounder” that pretty much does everything well. And, it’s a very special instrument for lovers of passive basses.
