This is a rare early 2000 Gibson Custom Shop Historic ’61 SG Special Reissue that was gently used in a studio setting. It is in near mint condition except for some very light marks on the upper right bout of the guitar that can barely be seen in one of the pictures.

The guitar was released just before Gibson started issuing Custom Shop certificates in the early 2000s, and made when Gibson still manufactured solidly built instruments. 

This guitar is aptly named “Special” because it’s been loaded with some very nice enhancements. The most distinguishing feature of the of ’61 SG Special is the use of dual Gibson P90 pickups in place of the humbuckers found in the SG Standard. Other improvements include a colorful Holly veneer seamless head stock, a long neck tenon, a more accurate body carve, more accurate tuners, push in bushings, 500k pots Bumble Bee reissue Caps. 

This one weighs in at 7.4lbs, with a nut width of 1.685″ (1 11/16″). The neck profile is an awesome wide/slim ’61 shape measuring .81″ deep at the 1st fret and .89″ at the 12th fret. All original hardware, and awraparound tailpiece.

This enhanced SG sounds killer and really nails that Pete Townshend Live at Leeds tone and many other classic rock sounds.
